Silicon metal, also known as industrial silicon, is primarily produced by high-temperature smelting of silica and carbon-based reducing agents in an electric arc furnace. Its silicon content typically exceeds 98%. It appears as silver-gray or dark gray lumps with a metallic luster, exhibiting a hard and brittle texture, high melting point, excellent electrical conductivity, and chemical stability. It serves as a critical intermediate linking silicon feedstock to downstream deep-processing products.
Based on the content of iron, aluminum, and calcium in metallurgical silicon, it can be classified into different grades such as 553, 441, 3303, 2202, and 1101.
Our company offers metallurgical silicon products in multiple grades. Please contact us for detailed information.

Primary Applications

Silicone Industry

This represents the core application sector, where it is used to produce silicon monomers (such as methylchlorosilane), which are then processed into products like silicone oils, silicone rubbers, and silicone resins. These find extensive use in building sealants, electronic encapsulation, medical consumables, automotive components, and more.

Semiconductor and Electronics Sector

High-purity metallurgical silicon (5N grade and above) is used to produce monocrystalline and polycrystalline silicon. After being processed into silicon wafers, it is employed in the manufacturing of integrated circuits, chips, solar panels, and electronic components. This serves as a core raw material for the new energy and electronic information industries.

Alloy Manufacturing Sector

As an alloying additive, it is used in producing silicon-aluminum alloys, silicon-copper alloys, and others to enhance strength, hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. Applications span aerospace, automotive manufacturing, and mechanical equipment industries.

Other Sectors

Silicon metal is also employed in producing silicon steel sheets (core materials for transformers and motors), serves as a reducing agent in magnesium smelting, or is processed into silicon powder for use in refractory materials, coating fillers, and other scenarios.
