Types of Aluminium Bauxite Ore
Gibbsite bauxite
Gibbsite bauxite includes an important component of aluminium hydroxide and is normally found in the red bauxite type. It manifests as soft and clay-like ore that easily crumbles. The chemical composition contains about 60 to 65% alumina (Al2O3), which is the main source of aluminium extraction through refining processes.
Boehmite bauxite
Boehmite bauxite contains a lesser degree of aluminium hydroxide as the bauxite mineral is composed of boehmite mineral. The ore is hard and has a higher density than gibbsite bauxite. The material is suitable for the production of alumina, although it may require more intensive processing compared to gibbsite ores.
Diaspore bauxite
Diorite bauxite has diaspore as its major constituent. The mineral is Aluminium Oxide Hydroxide and can be hard and durable. The bauxite type has a high alumina content of around 85%. Although it is the hardest among other bauxite types, it is still possible to extract aluminium from it. The ore is largely mined in regions of Greece and Serbia.
Lateritic bauxite
Lateritic bauxite is important in the formation of bauxite deposits from laterite soils. The red clay soil is responsible for the leaching process that leads to the formation of bauxite ore. The deposit type is found in tropical rainforests where high levels of rainfall and warm temperatures have prevailed for a long time period. Some of the notable areas include parts of Africa, Australia, and South America. The deposits also lack uniformity in grade and composition.
