What is phosphorus iron?

These are a few pieces I grabbed from the workshop. Take a closer look, and you'll see that they are black and red. Phosphorus iron is obtained from the phosphorus electric furnace. It is a coexisting compound that contains 20%-26% phosphorus and 0.1%-6% silicon. It can change the corrosion resistance and chip properties of steel. Phosphorus iron is used as an alloy agent in steelmaking. For most steels, phosphorus is a harmful impurity. However, in some cases, it has a special effect. For example, adding phosphorus to certain types of steel can improve the strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability of the steel, but it also increases its brittleness. Adding phosphorus to cast iron can improve the fluidity of the molten iron, thereby improving the performance and surface quality of the cast iron. 0.5% phosphorus in gray cast iron can increase its tensile strength, while about 0.15% phosphorus in wear-resistant cast iron can significantly improve its wear resistance. Phosphorus eutectic has high hardness, which not only improves its wear resistance but also improves its thermal conductivity and heat resistance, making the grinding surface uniform and not easily sparking during friction. Phosphorus iron containing 20% phosphorus ground into ultrafine powder can replace ultrafine zinc powder as a coating. Phosphorus iron is also a protective material for radioactive radiation. Overall, it is a very positive and versatile material.
