Petroleum Coke

Petroleum coke is the product of separating light and heavy oil by distillation, and then converting heavy oil by thermal cracking process. Petroleum coke is a black or dark gray hard solid petroleum product with metallic luster and porosity. It is composed of granular, columnar or acicular carbon formed by tiny graphite crystals.
Petroleum coke consists of hydrocarbons containing 90 to 97 percent carbon, 1.5 to 8 percent hydrogen, and nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur, and heavy metal compounds. Its main elemental composition is carbon, accounting for more than 80%, irregular shape, different size, and porous structure.
According to the quality and use of petroleum coke, it can be used in the manufacture of graphite electrodes and anodic arc, as well as steel, non-ferrous metals and aluminum smelting industry. Among them, low sulfur and high quality cooked coke is mainly used to make ultra-high power graphite electrode and some special carbon products. Medium sulfur and common cooked coke is widely used in aluminum smelting. High-sulfur, ordinary green cokes are used in chemical production, such as calcium carbide and silicon carbide, and as fuels for metal casting.
In addition, when petroleum coke is used as fuel, it needs to go through a series of technological processes, such as crushing and grinding, drying pretreatment, mixing ingredients, raw material preheating, coking reaction, tar separation, coke separation, coke treatment and furnace gas treatment, to meet the requirements of different industries and uses.
