Si-Ca alloy is a composite alloy composed of silicon, calcium and iron. It is an ideal compound deoxidizer and desulphurizer, widely used in the production of high quality steel, low carbon steel, stainless steel and nickel based alloy, titanium based alloy and other special alloys. In addition, the silicon-calcium alloy can also be used as temperature increaser in converter steelmaking workshop, inoculant in cast iron and additive in nodular cast iron production.
The main components of silicon-calcium alloy are silicon and calcium, and also contain different amounts of impurities such as iron, aluminum, carbon, sulfur and phosphorus. It is characterized by strong reducibility at 1500 ~ 1800 °C and strong affinity with oxygen, sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon in molten steel. Therefore, the silicon-calcium alloy is mainly used for deoxidation, degassing and fixed sulfur in liquid steel.
On the basis of the Si-Ca alloy, other elements can also be added, such as aluminum, Mn, Ba, etc., to form ternary or multicomponent composite alloy, such as Si-Ca-Al, Si-Ca-Mn, Si-Ca-Ba, etc. These composite alloys have better deoxidation, desulphurization, denitrogenation and alloying ability, and can be used in different stages of iron and steel metallurgy.
